It’s less than a month to go before Christmas. And it’s that time of the year again when prospects and customers are getting harder to reach. But you’ve got sales targets to hit before the end of the year. So, happens when your call isn’t answered and you have to leave a voicemail?
A voicemail is the first impression a prospect will get of you and the business you represent. Have you ever fallen into the trap of leaving a voicemail like this?
Would you respond to such a voice message left on your phone? There are a number of reasons why voicemails fail, either the message is too short, unclear, uninteresting or it fails to provide a clear purpose for the voicemail.
With this in mind, here are some helpful tips on how to leave an effective voicemail this holiday season.
Script a fool proof message
Make the effort to perform pre-call research and tailor your message to the caller – who are they, what they do, what you can do for them. This will ensure that you grab their attention as the voicemail is tailored to them. Develop a format that guides you through the information you need to get across ensuring you don’t leave a crucial part out.
Use the right tone
Research suggests that when communicating on the phone, tone of voice accounts for 86% of the total communication, and words account for the rest. So how you convey your message can have a bigger impact than what you actually say. Use a regular, conversational tone that sounds genuine, avoid sounding insincere, too excited or uninterested.
Keep it short
If you end up leaving a really long voicemail, you risk losing the prospect’s attention. They probably won’t listen to the entire message. Remember, you only want to get their attention enough so you can start your sales conversation with them. So keep it short and give them a reason to listen to the complete message.
Focus on the purpose of the call
Do you want them to call you back? Or are you going to follow up with an email? Be clear on what you expect from them and on what the purpose of the call is. If you are leaving contact details, ensure that it is comprehensible and make sure you leave the correct information.
Leave the best for the callback
Avoid crowding the message with too much detail and focus on creating a great first impression. There is only so much you can say coherently in 30 seconds, so offer them clear value for their time and persuade them to call you back.
Leaving clear, articulate voicemails helps businesses to present a professional image to prospects and result in a better rate of response. But at CloudCall, we also understand that planning out every single voicemail you leave is a bit unrealistic….
